Meet Hannah Walker

the driving force behind Walkers School of Motoring

I have been driving cars for 30 years and held a full motorbike licence for over 25 years, i also hold large and heavy goods vehicles licences, and have gone through rigorous training to back it up.

I have driven many vehicles in my time, and a lot of that skill and experience was gained whilst serving in the armed forces, driving in all sorts of terrain and conditions.

There have been many changes on the roads over the years, and the volume of traffic is far greater than it ever has been, because of this there is greater risk and danger. I know driving is not just about learning to pass your test. It is about taking those core skills with you once you have passed your test, developing them continuously, which will in time help you to become a confident but very safe driver of the future.

After being involved in a serious non fault road traffic collision in 2005 whilst on active service in the armed forces, I never thought I would have the confidence to ever get in a car again let alone sit behind the wheel of one. However, with driving being one of my main passions, and a skill that gave me my independence I was not going to give up that easily.

Therefore in 2016 I decided to embark on a whole new career, and what better road to go down than train to become a driving instructor. I have to say it has been one of the most hardest, challenging but rewarding things I have done to date.

So now here I am in 2026, with 10 years ADI experience, very tough training, and vast amounts of patience and understanding. I hope I can help many other people of all ages and abilities to achieve their dream, and give them a lifetime of independence, and happy safe motoring.

I decided in 2019 to further my CPD Continued personal development , so I now work with the IAM, (Institute of Advance Motorist ) and have extend my qualifications and areas of teaching practice.

Zosh
Passed 1st time in Cheltenham

“I passed first time in Cheltenham with Hannah. She is an amazing driving instructor with so much experience and she was so patient with me. I had never driven before meeting Hannah, but despite this Hannah enabled me to gain so much confidence on the roads. I really miss our lessons as they were always so much fun and she made learning to drive very enjoyable. I couldn’t have done it without her!”

Will Malcom
Passed 1st time in Cheltenham

“I really enjoyed learning to drive with Hannah. Her calm and friendly approach put me at ease straight away. She was very supportive, and ensured I was not only prepared for my test, but also for driving in the real world. I would highly recommend Hannah!”

Max
Passed with confidence

“Jeremy has been a fantastic instructor, he is calm, kind and has gone out of his way to help Max to pass his test. He has been great support to me too and is always happy to offer some friendly advice when needed! I know Max will miss their sessions together, he has really enjoyed Jeremy’s company (and jokes!) that has helped put him at ease during his lessons from day 1. Thank you so much Jeremy!”

FAQs

FAQs

Every student is different, and no two students are the same. The national average for 17-year-olds is between 40-60 hours.

However, you may have previous driving experience e.g. driving a tractor on a farm, riding a moped, or even tried a young drivers course. So the time it can take can vary.

I can assure you that, no one has more lessons than they need and the more comfortable you are with your instructor the quicker you will learn.

You need your provisional driving licence and sensible shoes. Your footwear makes a huge difference with your pedal controls.

Also bundles of enthusiasm and a willingness to learn.

A two-hour lesson, once a week, is recommended to keep up continuity.

If you want to learn quicker, we can offer a more bespoke package to suite your time frame.

No you don’t need to pass your Theory Test before starting lessons.

It is advisable to do a few lessons first so the theory makes more sense, as you match it up to the practical lessons.

Pass plus is an additional course you can take once you have passed your driving test.

It consists of 5 modules – night driving, rural roads, city driving, motorway, and extra skills.

It will take about 10 hours and can be signed off by your driving instructor.

This will help reduce your car insurance.

Sometimes this can have the opposite effect and you can end up going backwards instead of forwards.

And ultimately it can cost you more money in the long run.

Using different cars with little driving experience is not always successful. Family and friends often miss incorrect driving sequences and faults causing bad habits to form. They are also not equipped with how to remedy faults to prevent repetitive habits from forming.

Good question, pass rates are not something to be overly concerned about, as many factors can impact on an instructors pass rate.

A few examples:

We have a mixed range of students, ages and abilities. Older students may take longer to get to test,  be more nervous and anxious about taking the driving test, resulting in more attempts.

Some students may have additional needs, dyslexia, ADHD, Delayed Processing Disorder, will all require adaptive teaching skills to get the student through test and again may result in several test attempts.

Test Centre locations. City Centre test centres like Cheltenham, will have lower pass rates. This is because they do not have free-flowing traffic system, meaning more risk, hazards etc. More start, stop driving resulting in frequent gear changing, mirrors checks, and quicker decision making under pressure.

When choosing an instructor, look further than just their pass rates, ask plenty of questions. Don’t just correspond via messaging, have a proper chat on the phone. Never pay a huge amount of money upfront for block lessons, at cheaper prices. Any good instructor will suggest a one-off lesson to see how you feel, before any commitment or upfront payment of lots of cash.
